Police are trying to identify a mystery woman who has emerged in the Ranvir Sharma murder investigation.
Detectives have also taken the unusual step of appealing to the Indian community for "rumours" about who might have been involved in the killing.
Mr Sharma, a 40-year-old unemployed Mt Wellington plumber, died
from a gunshot wound at a flat in Marua Rd, Ellerslie, on February 27 and was found in his car behind the Ellerslie shops the next day.
A rifle was found in nearby Ballarat St and a bag of bloodstained linen and clothes behind shops in Whites Way.
Police trying to piece together what they describe as a whodunit crime have arrested a 27-year-old Ellerslie man, Paul Yash, and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm.
But they have yet to charge anyone with more serious offences. Yash has been freed on bail.
On Sunday, police distributed flyers to the Punjabi temple at Bombay, the Hindu temple in Balmoral and the Sikh temple at Otahuhu, asking for anyone with information to come forward.
They also circulated a picture of a woman which was uncovered during their investigations.
They believe the woman is connected to either Mr Sharma, Yash or a third man, Dalbir Gill, an associate of Yash.
The flyer says police want to hear about "rumours circulating in the community about who are thought to be involved and/or the reasons for his death."
It also seeks information on the movements of Mr Sharma, Yash and Mr Gill on February 27 and 28.
Mr Sharma had said he was going to the shop to buy milk but never returned.
He came to New Zealand about 10 years ago after his brother disappeared in violence-stricken Punjabi.
