Police are examining a four-wheel-drive vehicle they believe was used by the killers of gang leader Kevin Weavers.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Gutry said the yellow Toyota Landcruiser was outside the Highway 61 headquarters on Holmes Rd, Manurewa, at the time of the murder on Saturday, September 27.
He asked
anyone who might have seen the vehicle, its driver or any passengers in the area of Holmes Rd or Puriri Rd that day to call the inquiry hotline on 0508 616-161.
Weavers died from stab wounds to the lower body after he was attacked about 11.30am inside the headquarters. He died in hospital soon after.
Police did not know who was in the vehicle, but Mr Gutry said it was "probably people from the criminal fraternity".
The Landcruiser was still being examined by forensics experts.
Mr Gutry has previously said there was a lot of blood at the murder scene and he expected the killers would have it on their clothing.
Police interviews revealed that the vehicle was outside the gang headquarters at the time of the murder, he said.
But it had gone by the time another gang member found Weavers lying wounded, shortly after the attack.
Mr Gutry would not say what information had led police to the vehicle, where it was found or whether it had been stolen.
He did not believe its owner was involved.
