Police have identified Karin Ann Ross as the 51-year-old found dead in a Dunedin yard - and upgraded the inquiry to a homicide investigation.
Ross' body was found at around 2am on Wednesday at a Strathallan St address.
Police have just confirmed the woman to be Ross and as a result of the post-mortem and a detailed scene examination, police have upgraded the probe into the "unexplained" death.
Police and specialist staff including forensics will continue working through the weekend and have completed the scene examination at the Strathallan St address while a number of other scene examinations continue around the Dunedin area.
The Criminal Investigation Branch is following up on positive lines of inquiry.
Police are working closely with the family who are receiving help from victim support services.
Police are wanting to speak with any member of the public who was in or around the Strathallan St area between midnight and 2am on Wednesday morning, including shift workers who noticed any activity -- and ask them to contact Dunedin Police on 03 471 4800.

Due to a homicide investigation being launched, police say they are are unable to provide any further details at this time.
