What rhymes with Wairarapa?
Zairamapa? Taikaropa? What does rhyme with Wairarapa? Does it matter?
Five local poets are promising the answer on National Poetry Day when they hit the road to spread the word on rhyming.
The July 27 event will see Wairarapa-based poets Pat White, John Horrocks, Mary McCallum, Bronwyn White and Jo Thorpe travel across the district, brandishing poems.
The group will hold events at Carterton and Masterton libraries, Aratoi, and Wairarapa College students will also get a performance. Poet Pat White said that coming from Cape Palliser to Masterton the group would offer a surprising range of poetry.
"We're reading poems ranging from the bucolic to the balletic, the liturgical to the literary, the rhyming to the free. People are bound to find something that appeals to them - and stimulates and moves them - maybe even makes them laugh," White said.
"Poetry is never what you'll think it will be. We're encouraging people to come along for the ride and be prepared to be amazed."
Javon Aranui was rushed to hospital in an ambulance but died the next day.
