Auckland City Council: Adopted economic development strategy in July last year, developed with businesspeople, councillors, staff, community, Government and other stakeholders.
Auckland Council (Super-City): The new council that will take over the region will inherit ACC's economic development strategy but there is no indication whether new council will act onit.
AucklandPlus: Business unit of ARC led by Clyde Rogers, which implements Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy (Areds) . Largest economic development agency in region. Will probably survive in some form.
Auckland Regional Economic Development Forum: Committee chaired by Chamber of Commerce chief executive Michael Barnett, includes leaders from the region's major economic development sectors.Oversees Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy and governs AucklandPlus. Likely to be retained in some form.
AUT University: Partner with AucklandPlus and Committee for Auckland in the Metro Project Action Plan launched in 2006.
CBD Board: External advisory body with a special interest in development of Auckland CBD. Comprises 15 CBD stakeholders who represent groups such as CBD business associations, ACC, Ngati Whatua, residents, educational bodies, professionals, hospitality industry and arts sector. Its future is uncertain under local government reorganisation.
Committee for Auckland: Not-for-profit private-sector organisation formed in 2003 that seeks to "leverage influence in the enhancement and development of Auckland as an exciting and dynamic place to live". Chaired by Sir Ron Carter and will continue after Auckland is governed by the super-city.
Economic development agencies/operations (other cities or districts): Cover Waitakere, Franklin, Manukau, Papakura, Rodney and North Shore and could disappear or be taken over as part of local government reorganisation.
Government: Greater-than-expected role in Auckland's economic future because of its commitment to big-ticket infrastructure spending and its determination to "make Auckland work". through imposition of super-city.
Heart of the City: CBD promotional lobby led by chief executive Alex Swney. It is a representative group for Auckland city businesses that originally started as a rating lobby group.Works with others to develop Brand Auckland (sometimes called the "big A"), rolled out in September last year.
Tourism Auckland: An independent trust funded by Auckland Regional Council and Auckland and Manukau city councils. Its independence is uncertain under the super-city.
