A multimillion-dollar deal to establish an airline pilot training centre at Hamilton Airport has been approved by Hamilton City Council.
UK-based CTC Aviation will receive a $4.2 million ratepayer loan, to be repaid in four years, to build a training centre for commercial pilots.
The company will train up to 120 overseas
airline pilots a year in Hamilton, and its operations are expected to generate $5 million a year in new spending.
Business2Hamilton chairman Mike Underhill said approval would bolster the region's case for Government development funding.
It is the third big aviation deal to be announced recently. Airport-based Pacific Aerospace has signed a deal to build aircraft worth $112 million over three years and Alpha Aviation has signed a deal to make more than 100 aircraft a year.
