Masterton mayor Garry Daniell said he was delighted with the results.
"Figures for April were very positive and there are strong forward bookings. Mawley Holiday Park also has huge potential to cater for school groups when the all-weather track is operative next season, with three national events already confirmed," he said.
Mr Daniell attributed the success to the total upgrade of the park accommodation and facilities, the efforts of new managers Rodney and Jelena Algie and an increased marketing focus.
"Rodney and Jelena have put a huge effort in from the day they arrived in November last year and have had excellent support from Destination Wairarapa and others," he said.
Mr Algie said their plan to promote the new park facilities along with attractions in and around Masterton was definitely seeing guests staying longer and coming back for more.
"More visitors stopping for longer has got to be good for Masterton and the wider region.
"Repeat visits and referrals are growing, especially in the campervan market. We sent the campervan clubs newsletters and a flier with 25 things to see and do around Masterton. We have had strong feedback that it's the things to do that are attracting them."
Mr Algie said forward bookings for cabins and ensuite units were strong and a group of 15 campervans was booked for Queen's Birthday weekend.
"We're also working on a strategy to increase tenting visitors this coming spring and summer," he said.
The number of nights spent in cabins by guests almost doubled as well, despite the number of cabins decreasing from 24 to 16 due to demolition of older buildings and the cooler, wetter summer.
Use of powered sites by campervans increased by almost 700 per cent while use of tent sites also doubled.
The final stage of the upgrade - a second new ablution block and demolition of an old one - will be completed this month.
