No jail for pharmacist caught selling illegal drugs

A pharmacist caught selling drugs, including prescription drugs, from a North Shore rental property has been sentenced to home detention.

Samer Dabous, 33, was sentenced in Auckland District Court today on charges of possessing to sell Class B drugs.

Judge Claire Ryan said Dabous should have known better than to take the drugs easily available in his position as a pharmacist then illegally sell them.

Dabous's landlord became aware of a smell coming from the property and a police search turned up the drugs on December 4, 2011.

Dabous was found to be selling morphine, ritalin, diazepam and cannabis to friends.

He was sentenced to 10 months' home detention, to be served in Dunedin.

Dabous was suspended from practice in March 2012 and faces further penalty from the Pharmacy Council.
