No arrests made after Papamoa street fight on Sunday

Police have not arrested anyone for Sunday night's Papamoa street fight - they are still looking for witnesses.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner, area manager investigations, said police were yet to make any arrests relating to the brawl in Lyn Grove in Papamoa.

Police received multiple calls reporting a large group of people fighting about 8.45pm outside a house in the street on Sunday.

The brawl involved people using sticks, garden tools and bats as weapons, police said.

During the incident, a 54-year-old woman was run down by a car and taken to hospital.

Two fences were smashed down, and residents were left to pick up the pieces and clean up the mess the next day.

"Police are continuing to make enquiries, no arrests have been at this stage," Detective Senior Sergeant Turner said.

"Witnesses are encouraged to come forward if they saw the crash or the altercation," he said.

The sons of the woman, who was struck by the car during the street brawl, say she was trying to defend her children when she was hit.

The Horomia brothers said they were targeted by a gang from out of town after they asked a person to stop selling drugs in the area.

The brothers, 23 and 25, said a crowd of gang members showed up outside their mother's house on Lyn Grove about 8.45pm shouting gang slogans and brandishing baseball bats.

Chuck Horomia said they feared they would be killed and tried to defend themselves by throwing roof tiles.

The brothers said they were targeted by the gang because they tried to stop drugs being dealt in the area.

Amidst the carnage, women huddled with their children and grandchildren inside their homes as police swooped in on the area.
