A Hastings woman has been fined $400 after her 11-year-old daughter was repeatedly found sniffing paint.
Denise Poto Bell, 39, a single parent, pleaded guilty to failing to make provision for the supervision and care of a child under 14 when she appeared in the Hastings District Court.
According to a police summary, Bell's daughter and other youths were found sniffing paint in Hastings on three occasions between July 30 and August 6.
The girl was taken into police custody on the third occasion, after her mother had been repeatedly warned by police, and the matter was referred to Child Youth and Family services.
Judge Tony Adeane also ordered Bell to pay $130 court costs.
