A 29-year-old Tokoroa man who had pleaded not guilty to sexually violating and murdering his wife has changed his plea to guilty on the violation charge.
Hamuera Te Hiko's change in plea came after the Crown presented evidence before Justice David Morris in a High Court trial at Rotorua.
Te Hiko has denied murdering his 45-year-old wife, Eliza May Te Hiko, at his brother's Putaruru house last December.
The jury was told that Te Hiko beat his wife about the head, bit her on various parts of her body and also sexually violated her.
Both the prosecution and defence have given their closing addresses and Justice Morris will sum up the case on Monday.
