Car goes off road into a river on the South Island's West Coast

Emergency services are responding to a car that has gone off the road and into a river inland from Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island.

The accident occurred about 8pm tonight near the Rough River bridge on Atarau Rd at Ikamatua into a river.

A spokesman for the Fire Service said no-one was trapped in the accident, which was also attended by St John.

The Pike River memorial is on Akarau Rd.
