Police have arrested a wanted Hawke's Bay man over the death of 22-year-old Taylor-Jade Hira.

Police on Friday found the man, who had a warrant out for his arrest since the assault on Hira, at a residential address in South Auckland.

He will appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow morning facing a charge of assault with intent to injure.

Further charges are likely to be laid.

As the matter is now before the courts Police are unable to comment further.

Stuff reported that Hira was the youngest of five siblings, and the only girl in the family.

"She was really close to all her cousins on both sides of her family," Tamzyn Skipper said.

Senior youth leader at Equippers Church Hastings, BJ Pui described Hira as a "like a diamond," while speaking to Stuff.

"She had many different facets. She was kind, caring, quirky, sassy, goofy. One thing that stood out was that if she allowed you into her circle, it was for life. These friends here, they are products of that."
