An awareness of the Holocaust has been with me from a very young age. An aunt married a Polish Jewish survivor. Among their friends, when I was a child, was the beautiful young Zosia Galler (who became the mother of esteemed intensive-care specialists, Aucklanders Dr Les Galler MNZM and Dr David Galler).
