Police are seeking sightings of a red 2004 SS Commodore that was in the area at the time of yesterday's ANZ bank robbery in Whangarei.

No one has been arrested over the robbery yet and police said investigations are ongoing.

Just after 11.30am yesterday, two men in disguise - one carrying a firearm - entered ANZ's Whangarei branch and demanded cash.

Police confirmed no one was injured in the robbery.

The offenders fled the scene on foot. One was wearing a grey hooded top with dark trousers, and the other was wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

Former police officer and current councillor Gavin Benney told the Northern Advocate he followed the offenders until they drove off in a red Commodore on Second Ave.

Police asked anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity not to take unnecessary risks but to call police immediately on 111.

Anyone with information could contact Acting Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor, Whangarei Police on (09) 430 4500.
