A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 16-year-old girl in Dunedin at the weekend.

A 30-year-old man will appear in Dunedin District Court today.

Police say the man was known to the teenager and they are not speaking to anyone else in relation to her death.

Officers were called to a Clermiston Ave address on Saturday morning, and found a 16-year-old female dead at the property.

Police had previously said the death in the Dunedin suburb of Corstorphine was "unexplained".

Police and forensic staff worked at the site all weekend.

For a second day, there was a heavy police presence at the property yesterday.

Police were called there about 9.30am on Saturday.

A cordon has surrounded the house since then.

A member of the public told the Otago Daily Times a St John ambulance had been at the address and that police had searched nearby properties.
