A shark has washed up on an Auckland beach this morning.
Residents in the suburb of Hillsborough spotted it on nearby Aldersgate Reserve.
A local woman told Fairfax she had earlier seen who she thought were fisherman releasing it from a net. However, it did not swim away.
The resident said the shark was thrashing around in the shallows but it failed to get back into the deeper water.
Another resident, Donna Lofthouse, told the publication she had seen a family trying to pull the shark out of their fishing net by the tail, in an attempt to get it into deeper waters.
