Man poses as doctor to steal from retirement home resident

A burglar posed as a doctor to enter a retirement village and steal cash from an elderly resident.

The woman let the man into her room at Dannemora Gardens Retrement Village yesterday afternoon because he told her he was a doctor.

Police were notified of the break-in at 1.55pm. The man appeared to be in his 30s and was wearing a green jacket and green backpack.

"He didn't hurt or touch her. He just said he was a doctor and made off with some money," a police spokeswoman said.

The gates of the rest home were shut to stop him escaping, but he fled by jumping a fence.
Police are still investigating and have not caught the burglar.

The Herald is seeking comment from Dannemora Gardens Retirement Village, which is part of the Metlifecare group.
