A New Zealand man reportedly accused of threatening to slit an Australian politician's throat has skipped his court appearance.
The Courier-Mail reported that Reece Kyle Casey, 26, is accused of making the threat against Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and his wife in a post on Facebook.
The message also reportedly warned Mr Newman to protect his loved ones, which was taken as a threat against his two daughters.
Casey, who has been charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, failed to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court today, his solicitor reportedly saying he did not attend court because of the media interest in the case.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Richard Chedzey requested for Casey to be forced to surrender his New Zealand passport as a new condition of his bail, but this was declined.
