More settled weather will make its way across the country this weekend as the brisk southerly loosens its grip, MetService says.
Meteorologist Daniel Corbett said this weekend would see a rapidly improving picture with a lot of fine, sunny and dry weather about by Sunday.
Saturday could still feature afew showers across eastern parts of the North Island, especially Gisborne and the far north of Northland.
These would slowly ease away during the day.
"As the centre of the anticyclone moves closer to New Zealand, the clearer skies and light winds will be a perfect recipe for some good overnight frosts, especially across inland locations in the South Island,'' Mr Corbett said.
