Police have arrested a 49-year-old man suspected of causing a crash which killed a Northland mother in the Bay of Islands last week.
The man was driving on State Highway 10 south of Kerikeri last Wednesday when his 4WD allegedly crossed the centre line and collided with a car.
The car's driver, Kerikeri woman Katherine Kennedy, 46, was killed in the accident.
Police had been seeking the man since he discharged himself from Whangarei Hospital, where he was being treated for chest and spine injuries sustained in the crash.
He had not been under arrest and his ward was not under guard at the time.
He was arrested by Auckland police in Mission Bay early today after help from the public.
A police spokesman said he would appear in Auckland District Court today charged with driving while disqualified.
Further charges may be laid.
