Police say a family member of a 2-year-old boy stabbed at his Waikato home is likely to face charges.
The boy received a single wound to his stomach from a 15cm boning knife at his Centennial Ave, Te Aroha, house on Monday afternoon.
Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said the blade went 2cm into the boy's abdomen just above the navel and it was lucky police were not dealing with a fatality.
He said police had spoken to a member of the boy's family and charges were likely to be laid by the end of the week.
