Police say the death of a man whose body was found beside a rural roadway near Kaitaia today is not being treated as suspicious.
Senior Sergeant Gordon Gunn, of Kaitaia police, said the body was that of a local man, estimated to be in his early 50s, but he had yet to be formally identified.
He was discovered this morning by another local resident who was travelling along the rural roadway at Kaimaumau.
The body would be taken to Kaitaia for a post mortem examination, but police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the death, Mr Gunn said.
The death would be referred to the coroner.
