Library borrowers will soon have a way to instantly recognise Masterton District Library, as it has started using a new logo in the hope that users will associate the image with its services.
Acting library manager Sandy Green says this is the first official logo for the library and Wairarapa Archives.
"We've actually had it done for the new home page," she said.
They plan to launch their new online home page this year, along with other new features on the website.
This includes a social network for readers to connect with other readers and an upgrade to the library and Wairarapa Archive online catalogues.
Ms Green says over the years thelibrary has used other images to identify its publications and the new logo will appear on all internal publications, such as newsletters and book lists.
She says official documents, such as letters for overdue books, will still be sent under Masterton District Council's letterhead and logo.
The logo was designed with input from staff who had a brain-storming session to identify what it needed to represent.
The opening book shows how the library makes the information accessible and entertaining for borrowers, and the first page is in the shape of a koru to reflect the local identity, according to the library's latest newsletter.
Ms Green said the logo is about reaching out to the community, and Walter Wisler, of Printcraft, designed it.
"It was very reasonably priced compared to what we could have paid for it," she said.
Masterton District Council paid the company $580 to design the new website and logo.
Ms Green says another important aspect of the design is that it can also be used in black and white, as not all of the publications are printed in colour.
She says the logo and website are "really something to look forward to".
