A 19-year-old woman has been remanded on bail after appearing in the Napier District Court charged with assaulting her 11-month-old baby.
Kathleen Alicia Pineaha, of Napier, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard to her son after an incident last month.
Detective Bill Gregory, of Napier, said the baby had made a remarkable recovery since he was admitted to Auckland's Starship hospital with severe head injuries. But it was too early to tell whether he would suffer long-term effects.
Pineaha will appear again on January 21.
