A Napier man has been convicted after sending an email to ACC, threatening to take its staff hostage.

Paul Shann has a long standing dispute with ACC involving a medical claim.

The 53-year-old sent the message to the manager of ACC's remote claim unit after becoming frustrated and angry that ACC wasn't addressing his concerns.

The manager was disturbed by the email which read, 'Do I need to take an ACC building and its staff hostage before you hand over my medical reports?', and contacted police.
