More referees are required to officiate in inter-club soccer matches in the Wairarapa in the 2007 season. Numbers have dropped to less than double figures and referee's spokesman Lindsay James said that was not enough to cover all games. "We are down to seven or eight who are refereeing on a regular basisand sometimes even two or three of them are not available because of work or other sporting commitments,"he said. "It would be nice to think we could double our membership at least, that way things would be a lot more comfortable." James said any prospective new members were welcome to attend the annual meeting of the referee's association in Masterton on Monday, February 12 and they would also be encouraged to attend a referees coaching seminar to be held by Capital Soccer at Mmemorial Park, Petone on Sunday, February 18. The main speaker at this seminar will be Ken Wallace of Auckland, who was part of the referee's administration team at the last World Cup.He will discuss law changes for 2007, how referees should deal with foul play and misconduct and the role of the referee, both pre-game and post game.
