The body of a missing hunter has been recovered by Search and Rescue teams today.
Police said the hunter was reported missing by family yesterday, after he had not returned home from a lone weekend hunting trip. The hunter was due to return home at lunchtime on Sunday.
Canterbury police Search and Rescue carried out an aerial search of the area the hunter was understood to have been in yesterday and a body was located late last night.
Police said due to diminishing light conditions, it was unsafe to continue the recovery operation last night.

Advertise with NZME.The body was recovered by helicopter today and formal identification confirmed it to be the missing hunter.
Police said the death was referred to the coroner to determine a cause of death.
No details of the missing hunter would be released until next of kin were informed, police said.
