IF the health of a sport can be measured by the numbers of young people involved, then the Wairarapa Motor Cycle Club is in pretty good nick. We looked in on a club motocross meeting on Sunday and came across little Meadow Carroll, 5, of Masterton, who was having her first-everrace on the little quad she got for her birthday. Meadow, weighed down with a mountain of shiny new body armour, wasn't saying much before racing started, but the question "are you scared?" brought an emphatic shake of the head. She joined other mini class boys and girls for riders' briefing, above, then lined up for the start of her first practice (below left ? that's her in front of the man in the middle at rear). Meadow couldn't match the pace of the other riders but she kept plugging on, displaying remarkable composure for somebody who's only just qualified for school. Could she be the next Katherine Prumm? Watch this space (in about 12 years time). In the meantime, Meadow's having fun.
