Foreign Minister Murray McCully has been briefed by the American Embassy on the release of up to three million potentially embarrassing diplomatic messages by the WikiLeaks website.
The US has been warning world leaders about the report leaks, which could harm relations between Washington and its allies.
A spokesman for McCully said: "We know that these documents are expected to come over the next few days, hundreds of thousands of them, and no one really knows what's in them."
