Man seriously hurt after car hits power pole

A man is in a serious condition after a car struck a power pole in Remuera this afternoon.

Police say power lines were brought down when the car collided with the pole around 4.20pm.

Police have cordoned off Orakei Road to all traffic between Shore and Ngapipi Roads while emergency services clear the scene.

A man and woman travelling in the car along the waterfront road were taken to hospital.

The woman had moderate injuries and the man had serious injuries.

Contractors were tonight at work making the scene safe.

The serious crash unit was investigating.
