A middle-aged man was shot and injured in Northland last night.
St John Ambulance was called to the shooting at Mokau, northeast of Whangarei.
The man had apparently been shot in the stomach with a .22 calibre rifle. Police were speaking to a person at the scene.
The Northland Emergency Services Trust rescue helicopter airlifted the injured man to Whangarei Base Hospital for surgery.
