Man charged after suspicious death of woman in Mangakino

Police have launched a homicide investigation following the suspicious death of a woman in the central North Island township of Mangakino.

Police said they were alerted at about 7.30am today that a 41-year-old woman had died at a property.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and was in custody.

Detectives from Taupo were carrying out a scene examination at a property in the small rural settlement.

They said the incident appeared to be isolated and there was no wider risk to the community.
