The court granted Gill electronically-monitored bail but police revealed this week he had cut off his bracelet and been missing ever since.
"We have recent information to suggest that Gill now has shaved or very short hair, with a small beard. He is Indian, has a skinny build and is about 180 centimetres tall" said Detective Jason Hamblyn.
The defendant has links to the Papatoetoe area and though he does not hold a driving licence, police said it was unknown whether he had access to a car.
"We believe Mr Gill may be, or has until very recently, been working in the fruit picking industry in the Bay of Plenty - he also goes by the name of Happy Gill and Benny Gill," said Mr Hamblyn.
Police would like to speak to anyone who has been in contact with him or knows his whereabouts.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Hamblyn on 09 213 7925 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
