Main highway closed yesterday after spillage

Northland's main highway was closed for more than six hours on Wednesday after a truck spilled 17 tonnes of scrap metal across the road.

Whangarei police crash analyst Trevor Neave said it appeared the southbound truck crossed the centre line and tipped on its side on State Highway One on the south side of the Brynderwyns, south of Whangarei.

The driver received medical attention at the scene.

Traffic was diverted while the road was cleared.
