A body has been found after a nearly week-long search for a man who fell overboard into a South Island lake.
At around 6.15pm last Saturday, police responded to reports that a man had fallen overboard while 1km offshore in Lake Manapōuri, in Fiordland National Park.
Police search andrescue and dive squad teams, with assistance from the Royal New Zealand Navy, scoured the lake and surrounding areas over the past few days in search of the man.

Today, the dive squad and the Navy recovered the man’s body.
While formal identification is yet to take place, police said they believe it is likely to be the missing man.
Sergeant Alun Griffiths thanked those involved in the search and extended condolences to the man’s family.
“We are especially grateful for the assistance of the New Zealand Defence Force in providing specialist expertise that allowed this extended search to be concluded.”
