More than 400 dogs congregated in Henderson yesterday for the fifth annual fun run, Jog the Dog.
Dogs got a chance to "socialise" on the courses - a 2km course for "vertically challenged dogs" and a 4.5km course through Henderson Park.
Thanks to the wet weather, dogs returned from thecourse muddy and wet but were rewarded with "doggy icecream" (icecream with dog biscuits in it), "doggy biscotti" and a free doggy "warrant of fitness" check.
As well as the run, prizes were given out for the dog and human who looked the most alike, bad hair day and the most beautiful dog.
Dog owners paid $15 to enter, the proceeds going to the New Zealand Epilepsy Dog Assist Trust.
Jog the Dog creator Pip Fleming said all the dogs loved it and were on their best behaviour. "We want this event to show how responsible dog ownership improves dog behaviour.
"They give a lot of love and affection unconditionally so we need to be responsible with dog ownership and give dogs the same respect."
