Injured mountainbiker Sadie Parker-Wynard wants more than surgical wire and a hospital admission slip to remind her of the Commonwealth Games race she exited spectacularly on Monday.
Her first request once she emerged from arm surgery at Preston Hospital was for a replacement New Zealand team-issue lycra suit, as the original
was binned by doctors as they assessed the extent of her injuries.
"She had all her gear cut off her so we gave her a new one," mountainbiking manager John Lee said.
"She said the thing she was most worried about was losing her New Zealand outfit."
Lee visited Parker-Wynard in hospital yesterday and said she was in high spirits although she will stay in a recovery ward for another couple of days.
"She can remember it all. She said it was the longest flight she's ever had," Lee said.
Parker-Wynyard crashed on a high-speed downhill section of the course on the penultimate lap, breaking her right arm at the elbow and badly lacerating her left elbow.
She was fortunate to escape serious injury as her helmet cracked when she hurtled several metres along a section of cobblestones.
Meanwhile, a decision could be made tomorrow on whether mountainbike silver medallist Susy Pryde will be fit to line up in Saturday's road race.
Pryde was bashed about while riding into second place, suffering a black eye, cut mouth and bruising when she crashed early in the race.
It was also feared she had fractured her left wrist when she fell but scans cleared her of any serious damage.
