Injured climber flown out of Aoraki-Mt Cook National Park

A 40-year-old Wellington tramper was flown out of Aoraki-Mt Cook National Park by helicopter yesterday after breaking his leg in a fall.

Alistair Betts was trying to help a fallen companion on Mt Aylmer when he also slid about 100m on ice, landing in firm snow.

During the slide his crampons dug into the ice, causing one of his legs to break.
