Ideas mooted for growth

The focus was on enhancing the game at all levels at a meeting hosted by the Wairarapa Cricket Association in Masterton this week.
Central Districts Cricket Association development officer Nigel Brooke was in attendance and he stressed the importance of introducing ideas which would have a positive impact on the growth of the sport in the region.
These could include the introduction of a 20-20 competition for teams of, say, six or eight people and played midweek in twilight hours so those not able to play on Saturdays would have the chance to take part.
Brooke also emphasised the need to boost the sport at both JAB and secondary school levels through the implemention of programmes which would allow for improved coaching opportunities.
Another message expounded was that for cricket to survive in regions like Wairarapa the reliance on volunteers in several spheres had to be recognised with every endeavour made to ensure they were operating in a convivial atmosphere.
