Seven people have been isolated at Hutt Hospital after a stomach bug outbreak.
Hutt Valley District Health Board spokesman David Graham said the hospital had had no new cases since yesterday and another person, previously isolated with the bug, had been discharged today.
The cases all occurred intwo adjoining medical wards which had a total of 54 beds.
At this stage it was not known if the bug that had caused vomiting and diarrhoea, was norovirus, Mr Graham said.
"We don't know but we're just being very conservative and stepping up our infection control as you'd expect where we've got a number of cases all in one area," he said.
Test results for the bug were due back tomorrow.
A ward at Dunedin Hospital was closed yesterday after being struck with a suspected norovirus outbreak.
Last month, almost 200 patients and staff at the hospital fell ill with norovirus, more than 2000 elective procedures and outpatient appointments were postponed and the hospital was "locked down" for one week with no visitors allowed.
