Giants coach Tony Nixon is expecting no favours from Poneke- Kilburnie in the Inter-City men's softball match at Fraser Park, Petone tomorrow.
The game signals the start of the official part of the 2006-07 season for Giants, who had the ideal rehearsal when they won their own pre-season tourney
at South Park last weekend against opposition from national club champions Hutt City United, Johnsonville and Hutt Valley Marist.
That result, and the fact that Giants won the Hutt Valley premier league last season, guarantees that the powerful Poneke-Kilburnie will very definitely not be taking them for granted.
With one of the country's most powerful batters, Malcolm Namana, transferred to them from Cardinals they will test the pitching skills of Justin Karaitiana and Ritchie Clarke while their own pitching staff is sure to pose problems for the Giants batters too.
Nixon though is confident that if his team plays anywhere near their potential they are capable of what would be an upset win.
"We know it is going to be a tough game and I am certain we will be up for it," he said. " Keeping errors to an absolute minimum will be the aim for us??? you can't make mistakes and expect to win games like this."
