Hang-glider pilot to be tried for manslaughter

Queenstown hang-glider pilot Stephen Parson will be tried for manslaughter after a tourist fell to her death during a tandem flight he piloted.

Parson was yesterday committed to the High Court for trial after a two-day depositions hearing at the Queenstown District Court.

The 52-year-old Canadian is charged with the manslaughter of Greek tourist Eleni Zeri, 23, who died on March 29.

Prosecutor Alistair Garland said it was clear Parson had not fulfilled basic safety requirements.
