Greytown children will be well entertained over Queen's Birthday Weekend, with the instalment of the first new piece of equipment at Soldiers' Memorial Park.
As part of a $20,000 upgrade of the park, South Wairarapa District Council group manager roading and reserves Ian Richards said the climbing frame is set tobe installed in the week before Queen's Birthday Weekend.
"The major piece of equipment is the climbing frame and as the centrepiece of the playground makeover, it will be installed in the place that has been occupied by the old gun. The gun will be removed and restored, and may be used as part of an RSA project to develop the World War II memorial within Soldiers' Memorial Park."
The Greytown Playground Group, who have been hard at work behind the scenes driving the project, will hold a working bee on Saturday, May 28, to prepare the park for the new equipment.
"This group has been working on plans for the playground for 12 months or more because they found it was too spread out and the equipment was outdated, so thought it needed to be more grouped and user-friendly so they can better supervise their children.
"With funding secured, playground equipment ordered, and working bees planned for the installation of the new equipment, everything is in place for the much anticipated makeover."
