Three members of the Giants under-15 boys softball team will be wearing the Hutt Valley colours at a central regional age group tournament in Wanganui over the weekend.
Levi Harmon, Kieran Robinson and Reno Pourau have been given the chance to show off their paces on the representative scene afterdisplaying impressive form at both club level and in rep trials.
The clash with the Wanganui tourney means no matches in the Hutt Valley under-15 grade will be played tomorrow. The Giants under-13s also get a day off, having drawn the bye in their competition.
It is business as usual, however, for the Giants under-18s and their President's grade squad, the under-18s playing Te Aroha at Fraser Park tonight and the Presidents hosting Totara Park at South Park tomorrow, starting at 3pm.
For the under-18s, tonight's fixture gives the chance to bounce back quickly from their narrow defeat in their first appearance of the season seven days ago. The signs of rustiness in their play then are unlikely to occur again, especially with a hard taskmaster in Mark Fricker calling the shots from the coaching bench.
The Giants President's grade team have won 4 from 4 in their Hutt Valley competition and will be warmly favoured to make it 5 from 5 at Totara Park.
Spokesman Allan Clarke is confident complacency will not be an issue as, with experienced pitcher Trevor Smith spearheading the challenge, Giants know runs will prove hard to come by. "It's one of those games where you know you'll get punished if you have an off day."
