Giants were made to work hard for their thrilling 4-3 win over Johnsonville in their Inter-City series men's softball match on Saturday.
Coming on the back of their convincing 10-0 victory over Newlands, Giants started warm favourites, but the winning run was not scored until their very last turn at bat.
In
fact, it was Johnsonville who took a 1-0 lead early in the piece and after Giants evened at 1-1 the match went four innings before a further run was scored.
It was Giants who broke the deadlock with Curtis Ames hittng a home run with a player on base to give them a 3-1 lead, but Johnsonville hit straight back by scoring two runs themselves in similar circumstances.
Going into the seventh and last innings it was still tied up at 3-3 and after pinch hitter Corie Karaitiana struck a one base hit, it was again Ames who answered the call, hitting a three base hit which enabled Giants to bring one runner home, enough to give them a 4-3 win.
Ames was the star act with the bat for Giants with Travis Head also showing goiod form in that department, while despite suffering the effects of the 'flu Justin Karaitiana was again in superb form in the pitching role.
