Giants have a point to prove when they play Miramar in an Inter-City series men's softball match at Miramar tomorrow. The Masterton-based side have never beaten Miramar but experienced campzaigner Gordon Wilmshurst believes they are capable of doing just that on this occasion. Not that Wilmshurst is under-rating Miramar, who he seesas having one of the strongest pitching staffs in the Inter-City, as well as one of the most powerful batting line-ups. "They don't really have any weaknesses so you have to beat them on your merits, He said. Wilmshurst said Giants would be talking a somewhat different tactical approach into tomorrow's game. In past encounters with Miramar they have attempted to power their way to victory with big hits, but this time they will be placing greater emphasis on bunts and stealing bases. "They are not giving us too many loose pitches, so we are going to earn everything we get," he said. "We'll have to play smart to beat them, no doubt about that." Wilmshurst said one of the biggest headaches going into the match for Giants, will be deciding on who takes the diamond with competition amongst players keen in several positions. "Everybody is dead keen to get out there and do the business, and there's always going to be some unlucky ones who are on the bench," he said. Almost certain to start as pitcher for Giants though is Justin Karaitiana, who has been such dominating form in early-season games. "Miramar do have some big hitters, but he (Karaitiana) seems to thrive on that sort of challenge," Wilmshurst said.
