A vessel once used to ferry the dead and dying from the beaches of Dunkirk was lifted from Otago Harbour on to the back of a road-train this week, in preparation for a journey to Queenstown, where it will become a tourist ferry on Lake Wakatipu.
The Yvalda, a 14.25m ketch-rigged motor-sailer, was built in Scotland in 1936 for the British Royal Navy and was brought to New Zealand in the 1950s.
