AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
(Melbourne)
New Zealand Paralympic dressage rider Jayne Craike (Papakura) won all three events she contested at the championships in Melbourne.
After winning the initial warm-up with a score of 71.07 per cent, beating the field by over 10 per cent, Craike then went on to beat the field by 8 per cent in the championship test, winning with a score of 68.6 per cent, and the freestyle with a score of 71.64 per cent, beating the field by over 9 per cent.
The international judges commented that Craike and her horse Crusader were a great partnership and worked well together.
Craike said it was Crusader's first time flying and that he travelled really well. "The competition venue was great and we were both well prepared. I am extremely happy with the results," she said.
Coach Jacqui Winspear said that Craike had used this event as a lead-in to her preparation for the World Championships in July next year. "She rode very professionally, competing in unusually hot conditions (37C) and needed to adjust her plan accordingly to accommodate this. It was a great test."

NEW ZEALAND A
Wellington midfielder Andy Barron will lead New Zealand A at next week's Agribank Cup soccer tournament in Vietnam after the withdrawal of captain Tim Brown.
New Zealand Soccer agreed to Brown's release as the All Whites midfielder chases a short-term A-League contract with the Newcastle Jets.
Brown has not been included in the Newcastle squad to play Queensland tomorrow but is expected to feature when the club host Adelaide on Friday.
He will not be replaced in the New Zealand A squad for the Agribank Cup in Hanoi starting with their match against Vietnam on Wednesday, with coach Stu Jacobs confident he has sufficient cover.
Their other games are against Thailand next Friday and Bahrain on October 29.
Barron's promotion comes after an eye-catching rookie year for the All Whites, during which he scored the winning goal in the 2-1 win over Malaysia in Auckland in February.
Barron is joined in the A squad by fellow All Whites Jeremy Brockie, Chris James, Mark Paston, James Pritchett and Jeff Fleming.
