A former Palmerston North schoolteacher has pleaded guilty to five further charges involving sexual offences against boys when he appeared at Palmerston North District Court today.
The Crown today withdrew five of the 24 charges faced by 43-year-old Derek Humphreys, and a charge of unlawful sexual connection was amended to oneof indecent assault on a boy aged between 12 and 16 years old.
Earlier this month, Humphreys pleaded guilty to 14 charges.
Humphreys' solicitor Fergus Steedman said doubt about the age of the victim had led to four of the charges being withdrawn and laid as alternative charges.
Humphreys was arrested in December at Castlepoint, on the Wairarapa coast, after guests at a motor camp complained about his inappropriate behaviour with young boys.
Police said since 1975 Humphreys had regularly taken boys to the Wairarapa on camping trips that were not sanctioned by the school where he taught.
Police believe up to 60 boys may have been affected by his offending.
Judge Phillip Connell remanded Humphreys in custody until May 1, when a date for sentencing would be set at the High Court.
